PROGRAM INFORMATION

The City of Tucker Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to offer youth tee ball and baseball powered by The Baseball Foundry.  Located in the City of Tucker, The Baseball Foundry boasts a state-of-the-art baseball and softball training area, batting cages, and sports performance training.

Teams are led by paid coaches and not parents

To ensure that players are assessed and coached in an unbiased manner, the City of Tucker has partnered with The Baseball Foundry to provide coaches, create practice and game schedules, and to manage the instructional program for all players.

The program is under the supervision and guidance of Jason Garcia, the Director of Athletic Operations at The Baseball Foundry, and his team of coaches.  Hailing from Land o’Lakes, Florida, he was drafted out of high school by the Red Sox organization.  Jason later transferred to play with the Baltimore Orioles.  Jason is a pitcher and he has played professional baseball since 2011 and is slated to play for the 2021 Puerto Rican Olympic team.

Details

During the season, your player will learn the fundamentals of baseball, which includes proper throwing, batting, and fielding techniques.

Evaluations will be held in late February.  The primary purpose of evaluations is to assess each player’s skill set.  The results of this assessment will be used to create teams of players that are balanced.

Team assignments will be made approximately two weeks following tryouts.

Starting in April, teams will practice two times per week; schedules are team based and will be announced after final registration headcount has been tabulated.  Once games begin, practices will decrease to once per week.

The first two weeks of the season will be instructional only and players will spend on-field time learning about the game and how to operate as a team.  The basics of the game will be taught in a manner that builds core fundamental skills while maintaining a fun and positive environment.  Coaching and training advance as players age.

The spring season also consists of games, which will begin approximately two weeks after practices begin.

COVID-19 protocols

COVID protocols will be in place for anyone attending tryouts, practices, and games.  These measures include, but are not limited to masks and social distancing.  As CDC recommendations evolve and become available, precautionary measures might change.
